The BIWU Background

The Baking Industrial Workers Union & six other sub-sectors defected from United Food and Allied Workers Union (UFAWUZ) in 1995 to formulate Food Federation & Allied Workers Union of Zimbabwe FFAWUZ after serious allegations of misappropriation of funds by the then UFAWUZ leadership. Paul Twawanda Chapisa took over the presidency since the formation of BIWU and passed on, on the 2ndof August 2014, He was also the president of FFAWUZ since 2004 up until his death. BIWU is an affiliate of Food Federation Allied Workers Unions of Zimbabwe (FFAWUZ) which is also an affiliate of Zimbabwe Congress of trade Unions (ZCTU)

BIWU is led by Samuel Tsvangirai (President) who came into office during the congress held on the 19th to 21st February 2015 and he was also appointed the Central Executive Member of FFAWUZ according to its constitution.

The FFAWUZ is an amalgamation of National Trade Unions Organizations in the food and allied industries in Zimbabwe. These unions are referred to as affiliates. Affiliation is per application, subject to approval by the National Executive Committee.

The Food Federation and Allied Workers Unions in Zimbabwe was formed in 1995 and is affiliate to Zimbabwe  Congress of Trade Unions, also affiliated to international Union of Food(IUF), the Global Union of all food sectors in the whole World. FFAWUZ has strong links with The United Federation of Danish Workers (3F) and ITUC.
